ANNDER THE TREE
„Grandmother, the alchemist you spun gold out of this hard life,
conjured beauty from the things left behind found healing where it did not live
discovered the antidote in your own kitchen
broke the curse with your own two hands
you passed this instuction down to your daughter, who then passed it down to her daughter…”
Waran Shire
My diploma collection was a homage to my Grandmother and it`s design is based on the principles by which she lives her life.
The way how she tries to not waste and use every little piece for something. The collection is a mix of the good old and the great new technique of the new. In the sense of textiles and techniques traditional and vintage fabrics from my Grandmother are mixed or layered with new fabrics and modern techniques like digital print and lamination.
„Just like making and kneading dough- very carefully, I work through every piece really well before it is done, with an extra care for the inner beauty of the garments, which results in a special connection to the pieces.”
In some cases, pieces could be handed down to someone else, therefore all the garments are either oversized or alterable from a women’s size 44/46 to a size 34.
My aim was to design a collection made up of
one-of-a-kind, special pieces which one would like to wear for a longer period of time, developing kind of a bound with the garment and possible inherit it to the next generation.
